Job description
Graduate Business Partnership
A Graduate Trainee Communications and Marketing Officer is required at Devon County Council (DCC), Exeter, seconded from the University of Exeter. You will assist with the delivery of DCC's corporate communication activity and support for the Marketing, Digital, Internal Communications and Press & PR Teams. This is a 12 month internship available immediately, and is part of the Graduate Business Partnership Scheme.

The main purpose of this job is to support the promotion of Devon County Council, its role in community leadership and its services, to the people of Devon, employees and stakeholders in line with the authority's Better Together vision.
Duties and responsibilities will include assisting with the delivery of corporate communication activity including providing project based support across a wide range of projects and campaigns to support corporate communications priorities. The appointee should also be expected to run 2/3 designated marketing projects from start to finish, and take responsibility on a number of smaller projects. The appointee will be expected to support communications colleagues to devise, deliver and evaluate high quality marketing campaigns to meet the needs of Devon County Council and its audiences, by focusing on raising awareness of the services provided by the organisation across the county and online. They would also have the opportunity to help develop and co-ordinate effective communication for internal and external audiences, as well as support the production of press releases and other forms of media communication. They will also have the opportunity to work on the organisation's approach to social media, supporting staff and managers across the organisation to develop imaginative approaches to social media which engage existing and potential users, and support the web and digital team with content creation and maintenance of the organisations websites.
We are looking for a graduate who has excellent literacy, organisational and written and verbal communication skills. Candidates must have excellent IT skills including a comprehensive understanding of all Microsoft office applications and must be able to carry out the duties of the post with reasonable adjustments where necessary. In addition the candidate must have people skills, especially being tactful and patient, they must be able to use initiative, be able to learn through experience and be self-motivated. Candidates must also have a good level of creativity and innovative ideas and be a strategic thinker. Interviews are expected to take place on the 4 July 2019.
