The role

World and Postcolonial Literary Studies at Exeter is built around a strong a collegiate team of academics based in the Department of English and its thriving research culture. With expertise in African, Caribbean, and South Asian literatures and cinemas, the environmental humanities, print cultures, archival studies, global circulations, our World and Postcolonial Cultures Research Group brings together interdisciplinary research that draws on a range of approaches to analyse the varied and historical manifestations of postcolonial and world cultures and societies. We regularly host conferences, symposia and events, supervise PhD students in this area, and offer a range of modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

You will have an independent, internationally-recognised research programme in an active field of research in World and Postcolonial Literatures that will strengthen and complement the existing team. We would be particularly interested to hear from candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas of 20^th and 21^st century literature/ culture: 

• Blackand Asian British Writing  
• Colonial / Postcolonial Print and Digital Cultures
• Literatures and cinemas of the Global South 
• Critical Theory:Postcolonial and Decolonial Methodologies
• Indian Ocean Studies
• Environmental and Medical Humanities
• Literaturesand Cultures of the Muslim World   

The role is based in the Department of English, and while the successful applicant will be teaching predominantly postcolonial anglophone material, we'd be very keen to hear from candidates with the ability to work across languages (particularly non-European languages). 

About you

You will have:

• A PhD or equivalent in World and Postcolonial Literary Studies and have an independent, internationally-recognised research programme in a relevant active field of research
• A strong record in attracting funding for research, or demonstrate potential to attract such funding
• An active approach to inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary research
• Enthusiasm for delivering high quality undergraduate programmes
• Strong connections and funded projects with business and community partners
• Involvement in projects which develop impact
