About Exeter and the South West
College of Social Sciences and International Studies
The College wishes to recruit a Lecturer in Arabic (Education and Scholarship) to support the delivery of Arabic language programmes including our flagship four-year MArabic. This post is available from 1 September 2017 or 1 January 2018 and is a permanent appointment.
The post will include teaching and facilitating the learning of Modern Standard Arabic and any relevant dialect related to our Arabic language programme; assigning, assessing and marking work; setting exam papers and conducting relevant exams; and any further language delivery-related tasks as determined by the Arabic language coordinator and any related administrative duties assigned by the Director of the Institute.
The successful applicant will possess sufficient breadth and depth of specialist and core knowledge in Arabic pedagogy. This will be demonstrated by advanced training and experience in teaching Arabic as a foreign language, in developing teaching programmes, and in teaching and supporting learning in this academic area. A research background in Arabic pedagogy is highly desirable, and a commitment to the ongoing implementation of innovative teaching methods essential.
They will use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students. They will participate in and develop external networks, for example to maintain innovative pedagogy, contribute to student recruitment, secure student placements, facilitate outreach work, generate income, obtain consultancy projects, or build relationships for future activities.
