The post
The College wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (PDRF) for the UKRI-funded Interdisciplinary Circular Economy Centre in Technology Metals (TechMetCE). Led by the University of Exeter, this Centre will explore how to create a circular economy for the technology metals such as cobalt, rare earths and lithium. The Centre aims to develop a new cycle, right from the first stages of extraction, to enable secure and environmentally-acceptable circulation of these crucial materials within the UK economy. The PDRF will conduct research in Theme 2 of TechMetCE, 'Circular economy principles for primary technology metal raw materials: new evaluation and extraction techniques'. The PDRF will work with Professor Karen Hudson-Edwards, Professor Frances Wall, colleagues at University of Exeter, the British Geological Survey, Universities of Leicester, Manchester and Birmingham and over forty project partners.
We are looking for an applicant to work on the development of circular economy geomodels. They will have a background in exploration or mining geology and be willing to learn and apply life cycle and economic analysis (training will be provided). They will be working in an interdisciplinary team. They will also be expected to attend project meetings, national and international conferences, and to contribute to dissemination and training activities.
About you
Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study. The successful applicant will be a nationally recognised authority in exploration or mining geology and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. The successful applicant will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required. Applicants will be able to compile geological, environmental and social impact, and economic and regulatory information, undertake computer analysis using GIS and other related programs, conduct geochemical and mineralogical analysis, work effectively with a range of academic, industrial, government and non-governmental partners, and write reports and scientific articles, Applicants should be enthusiastic about interdisciplinary research.
