College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences
Renewable Energy
This post is available 1 December 2018 until 31 July 2019 and will support the work of Prof Lars Johanning.
The project will research address the understanding of novel mooring materials and configurations together with an integrated approach to monitor and predict their reliability for Marine Renewable Energy devices in field demonstration.
The post will be based on a balanced combination of scientific modelling and experimental testing: numerical simulations and engineering synthesis to provide robust design criteria that can be applied in a practical field deployment, in combination with large-scale physical testing of 'novel elastomeric mooring component' to verify the expected full-scale design characteristics. The successful applicant will be able to develop research objectives, projects and proposals; identify sources of research funding and contribute to the process of securing funds and make presentations at conferences and other events.
You will be a nationally recognised authority in ocean engineering with a preferable background in mooring design and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies. You will also be able to work collaboratively, supervise the work of others and act as team leader as required.
