This new full-time post is available from 4th January 2021 on a fixed-term basis until 30 June 2023, based on the Penryn Campus in Cornwall, subject to final funding confirmation.
Summary of the role/position
We are searching for an Impact Fellow to carry out research on the Deep Digital Cornwall project. We are looking for a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher with outstanding flexible digital skills and geological knowledge who can work with regional SMEs as well as academic colleagues.
Deep Digital Cornwall will give Cornwall and IoS SME businesses access to research skills, knowledge, data and facilities to carry out digital research and development of innovative products related to the underground environment (mining, geothermal, civil engineering, environmental, surveying, water resources, planning and permitting, heritage, tourism) and its connections to the surface. A new Deep Digital CornwallHub will be established on the Penryn University Campus, including a visualisation suite and specialist computer facility, gathering together public and propriety information about the subsurface. A large team of academics and specialists from the University of Exeter (Camborne School of Mines and Institute for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence), South West CoE in Satellite Applications and Cornwall-based industry partners, will help SMEs tackle digital research challenges and expand. The aim is to create a world-leading cluster of research-active, highly innovative businesses.
