The College wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to participate in the ASSIST project (Attitudes to Shale Gas in Space and Time) funded by NERC/ESRC. The two year full-time post is available from 1st March 2019 until 28th February 2021 and based at Geography, Streatham campus in Devon.
About the role
The post will involve conducting fieldwork in shale gas communities in England using qualitative and ethnographic research methods, as well as contributing to other project tasks involving questionnaire surveys and social media analyses. The successful applicant will be able to develop new concepts and ideas to extend intellectual understanding; m anage the use of research resources to ensure that effective use is made of them; interpret and evaluate data collected and the outcomes of research; and write up findings in high quality journal publications.
About you
The successful applicant will possess a PhD (or equivalent qualification/experience) in Human Geography, Environmental Psychology or other relevant social science and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in the discipline to develop research programmes and methodologies.The successful applicant will also be able to work independently in fieldwork contexts, and collaborate with other social and natural science disciplines. An essential attribute will be the ability to work flexibly and for extended periods of time conducting fieldwork in the case study communities Knowledge of social science literature on shale gas and energy conflicts more broadly is desirable.
