College of Engineering, Mathematics & Physical Sciences
The above full-time post is available immediately, on a fixed term basis, for two years. The role will be physically based with Torin-Sifan Ltd in Swindon, with regular travel to the University in Exeter.
The post
An exciting opportunity has become available to work on a 24-month Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) between the University of Exeter and Torin-Sifan Ltd. The KTP will focus on the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and related methods, to model and optimise the efficiency and acoustic noise characteristics of impellers and housings, used in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems.
The successful candidate will be employed by the University of Exeter and will be based at Torin-Sifan’s premises in Swindon.
Company Information:
Torin-Sifan designs and manufactures highly efficient AC and EC motors, motorised impellers and fans for the residential and commercial HVAC manufacturing markets worldwide. More information about Torin-Sifan can be found at: www.torin-sifan.com.
About you
You will have a strong first-class degree in a highly numeric or scientific-computing based subject (such as physics, engineering or mathematics) and computer programming skills; ideally with experience in C++, with the ability to modify open source code (such as OpenFOAM). With a hands-on approach (i.e. a willingness to test practical systems) and strong interest in the application of modelling techniques to real world applications, you will also have the ability to communicate complex information to a diverse range of audiences, both orally and in writing as well as the ability to gather, understand, analyse and extract key elements from complex data sets (for example large amounts of experimental data).
You will be able to work independently, manage and carry out appropriate research and respond to enquiries and requests for information from KTP partners and other relevant parties (such as patent attorneys). An aptitude for the commercial aspects of the work being undertaken is required; candidates who are able to demonstrate commercial experience will be at a distinct advantage. Candidates must be able to demonstrate an initial understanding of customer requirements and eventual market uptake.
Please ensure you read the Job Description and Person Specification for full details of this role.
